reservation probelms……..1

  1. The  reservation debate has again reared its head following the supreme court granting an interim stay on the central government proposal to introduce 27% reservation for OBC’S(Other Backward classes) in central educational institutes.i for one, find myself in complete agreement with the court’s arguments and do not believe that it in any way goes against the constitution or the concept of social justice. The court has only demanded a better criteria to determine backwardness of a community and a fresher census of the obc’s to replace the obsolete 1931 census which has been used by political parties across the spectrum to indulge in populist gimmicks.dont get me wrong here.i am not for reservation per sey or social justice but i do believe that reservations especially at the highest levels will not benefit anyone in the long run, expect the so called creamy layer among the disadvantadged sectrions on society. The manner in which the politicans have reacted seems to suggest a desperate attempt to win votes.if these ppl are really concerned about social justice, improvment shud be made to educational facilites at the primary level, more schools shud be set up and scholarships shud be provided to childrenm 4rm the disadvantaged sections of society, reserve discrimination seldom works and will only divide the country furthur.the need of the hour is to ensure that an equitable social system is establised in a just manner and the fruits of the countrys progress are shared among all sections of society.I hope to see a day where even the corporation and government run  schools have students from all sections of society.reservations shud be provided but only on the basis of economic backwardness, though other indices may also be taken into consideration.and the politicans shud think to solve probelms plauging the country like poverty, unemployment rather than simply handing over freebies.the attitude of these old buggers repluse me.this post will be contd……..

chennai tales………..

enough of all the serious talk for some time.i have a feeling its getting monotonous and boring.i have thus decided to write some thing about my host city for the past 6 months chennai.over the past 14 years of my life i have cribbed and bitched about dli and just wanted to get out and live in another city asap.it was only after i landed and began living in this city did i realise the true worth of my home…i missed everthing about home and delhi, right from the early morning endless cups of tv consumed while reading the papers, the delicious breakfasts lunches and dinners(home cooked food to cut it short),my friends,my tv(thanks to a great initative by the infalliable central goverment of ours which forced this system down our throats) were no gud channels to watch, the lazy days in du when we had no work n spent much of the days loitring in chankya, priyas and at jnu’s grandest hotspots making grand plans to take over the country by bringing about a revolution.its only when ur out of the protected cocoon of home do u realise that the outside world is very diffrent and independence and freedom dreamt of when at home are not dat great nyway.home will always remain a magical place……….

mohd.afzal case………to hang or not to hang

death penalty is one issue that always gives rise to heated debates on the same.both the pro and anti death penalty groups are justified in some ways.however, what i fail to understand is that why do ‘activists  have  objections with capital punishment only when a terrorist/a cold blooded murderer(dhanjoy chaterjee) is handed the death sentence.the activists go overboard after that, even arguing that the case has been basewd on false grounds and the confession was extracted under pressure(btw the afzal confession was televised by channels across the country).instead of being treated as criminals, these convicts are exalted and also made to be seen as victims.my question is when scenes of afzal gfamily was being played did any one see what the family of 13 havaldars who lost their lives in the parliment attack feel if he was released?will the indian goverment assure us that if another hijack takes place not only will they ensure the safety of all passengers but will also make sure that dreaded militants/terrorists are not realesed again.death penalty is not an end/ a solution in itself for sure.it can be ,in fact clubbed as a nesscary evil.in my book, mass murders, terrorists who enginner blasts that involve a huge civilan casualites nithari like incidents must be given death. As far as the freedom fighter argument goes, none of our freedom fighters blew up trains opr attacked innocent brit nationals.
i know all this may be highly subjective but what irritates and angers me the most is the attempt made by certain ppl to whip up sympathy for such ppl who evidently do not need any mercy.i wud like to see what such ppl has to say about santosh singhs death sentance.is she going to find loopholes in the case and write about it in a national newsmagazine or are these so called social activists going to petion the president to stop execution.i am still waiting……………………….

celebrity madness!!1

the recent furore over the alleged racist remarks on shilpa shetty by jane goddy and other participants in the channel 4 show big brother was unessecrily hyped up by the news hungry media. The comments, though certainly rude seemed hardly racial.the comments had nothing in them to provoke a shake up in indo-british ties.we rise our voices against these stupid programmes, fall prey to such gimmicks engineered to draw eyeballs .in our own lives however,we prefer not to rent out flats to black Africans,do not allow nearly a 3rd of our population to drink water from the same wells that we do,discriminate against people from the north east in many ways and the list goes on…..has any voice been raised when innocent Asians/Africans were beaten up or shot dead just because some idiot taught of them as terrorists.my point mainly is that these are basically moves created by the trp hungry tv channels to grab a few eyeballs.otherwise who can explain ndtv’s breaking news lead, one Monday morning reporting shettys victory in the competition.had it not been for this stupid controversy this news would have just been a small ticker in the entertainment section.racism needs to be tackled but in a much more sensible and strict manner, rather than by jingositic comments

innings started

i have been fascinated  a great deal by the entire concept of blogging but was rather lazy to start one on my own till now.the asian college of journalism, where i am curently pursuing a diploma in journalism has over the pat 6 months given me a new perspective in understanding diffrent people and cultures across this vast country .being brought up all my life in new delhi,i had little or no understanding about the massive diversity that this beautiful yet intensly complex country offers.i have learnt that most of the probelms india faces on its path to being an econmic superpower rests on its social fabric.the division of states on lingustic lines has resulted in a ghettoisation of diffrent lingustic commnuites in diffrent regions, which in turn has resulted in the feeling of some kind of lingustic superiority ,exemplified in the entire issue about the impostion of hindi.it resul;ted in huge protests from across the country especially the non hindi speaking south. If india indeed needs to shine some time,it is imperative that these diffrences are forgotton and people identify themselves as indians rather than punjabis ,tamilians and so on.until then these small squabbles and unneeded chauvanism by freaks will not take us anywhere.
